From the President

Welcome to the 2016-2017 Helena Quilt Guild New Year! We have an exciting year planned for you. A Potluck in December, a Retreat in April, a Quilt Show in May, and lots of little challenges and programs along the way! If you have been a member for many years or just a few, maybe even brand new – get ready for some fun, friends and laughter. The guild has been meeting for over 30 years and growing steadily. Sometimes we have just enough room. We will be spending time planning for the May Quilt Show – T-Time in the Rockies. Please plan on participating as a volunteer and entering some quilts in the show. I will try to remember each of your names, lol, but don’t hold me to that. See you Thursday! Theresa Jackson

The May Meeting was the annual End of Year Potluck. There was lots of yummy food and laughter. The minutes from the April meeting were approved as written. A Treasurer’s report was not presented.

A Drawing was held for the UFQ Challenge. The winner was Diane Haun, winning 50 fat quarters and second place went to ___________ who received 33 fat quarters. (Ok members, please help me fill in these blanks TJ)

The Row by Row challenge Rowers showed their Rows, now to get them finished by the May Quilt Show.

Drawing was held for those who helped work on Quilts for Comfort Quilts. The winners were Jill L, Sandi C, Diane H, Nancy G & Pam G each winning $20. The Quilts for Comfort were on display and then distributed to local organizations.

Bobi reminded the guild that on May 26th there would be a Book Launch at the Historical Society at 5:30 and asked for volunteers to help.

The raffle quilt for the Townsend Quilt Show was shown and tickets were for sale.

The 50/50 was won by ______________ in the amount of $21.00.

It was announced that Doug Leko of Antler Quilt Designs would have a trunk show on 9/23 $5.00 and class on 9/24 Mysterious Watson. Cost $50 contact Glynis Scott 980- 0281 for further information.

Linda P and Loreen S and Diana H - discussed briefly the annual retreat in April 2017 and moving it to Choteau instead of the Ursuline Center. It was decided that they would research and make a presentation at the September meeting to the members.

The December meeting minutes were never recorded. At that meeting Dean Hall made a motion that the Guild rent a storage unit for the Guild Items such as books, and quilt frames. The motion was seconded and approved. Daysee will be researching and setting that up.

Minutes submitted respectfully by Theresa Jackson, President.

Doug Leko Trunk Show in Townsend

The Doug Leko workshop and trunk show has been cancelled due to not enough student sign ups.

Block Exchange Last year’s Double Wrench Block Exchange will continue until this December. Please plan to bring your blocks to upcoming meetings. If there is enough interest, a new exchange may begin after the first of the year.

Bonnie Hunter Workshops

Our guild hosted Bonnie Hunter (www.quiltville.com) for 3 days of workshops in late July to teach Talkin’ Turkey, Texas Tumbleweeds and Smith Mountain Morning at the Holiday Inn downtown. We also sponsored a trunk show/lecture which was well attended by workshop attendees and other enthusiastic fans. All 72 workshop spots were sold out. Most of the students were guild members, but we also had waitlisted students from Missoula, Great Falls, Bozeman, Alberta, Virginia and Washington State. From all accounts, a good time was had by all! Bonnie shared her personal photos, descriptions of local tours, show and tell photos and otherwise detailed her entire visit with us on her blog for a week after she left Helena. If you missed the fun, or want to re-experience parts of that weekend, do an internet search for Bonnie Hunter Helena Montana. Thank you to everyone who attended or who helped in any way to make our 2016 National Teacher Workshops a ‘famous’ success!
