NEXT MEETING: September 10, 2015

Helena Quilters Guild meetings and events, unless otherwise stated, are held at the Life Covenant Church at 800 North Hoback. Entry is through the front door of the church. Guild meetings are on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the upstairs Sunday school area. Seamers and Dreamers is an open cluster that meets upstairs at the Life Covenant Church on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, from 10:30 to 4:00. Everyone is invited to attend. Work on your own projects, be they hand or machine projects or use Guild material to work on “Quilts for Comfort”.


Hi Everyone! I hope you had a great summer. We have lots of exciting things planned for the upcoming year and are changing things up a little. Attached is the budget for the upcoming year. We will give everyone time to review it, and then have discussion and make changes and finalize it at our October Meeting.

If you would like to host a challenge or mystery quilt, please let me know and send it to Rene for our Newsletter, then present it at our September or October meeting. Challenges can also be started anytime thru out the year so if you get an idea for a challenge we can get it going later.

Row Row Row your Block … One Yard and One Row at a Time: Challenger: Theresa J
tiny leaf Sign up at the September meeting
tiny leaf Start with 1 yard of any challenge fabric
tiny leaf Create a row of any style blocks
tiny leaf Height of Row - between 6 – 12”
tiny leaf Length of row between 36” - 60”
tiny leaf At least one block must use a piece of the challenge Fabric
tiny leaf Bring the row to the next meeting and pass it to the next rower

UFQ – Unfinished Quilt Challenge – Challenger: Theresa J
tiny leaf Look around your sewing room – do you have any unfinished quilts?
tiny leaf Was the unfinished quilt started before January of 2014?
tiny leaf If yes, then the Challenge:
tiny leaf Bring one fat quarter for each UFQ
tiny leaf Finish the quilt and bring it to show and tell between October 2015 and May 2016
tiny leaf At the May Potluck each finished UFQ will be eligible for the drawing for all of the fat quarters.
tiny leaf (If there are enough entries, we will have two drawings)
tiny leaf This challenge will be open during the September and October meeting and then closed.
Guild Meetings Minutes for June 11, 2015

Pot Luck – Thank you for all of the fun dishes that were provided!! Thank you for all of your help at the Quilt Show – it was a success. Looking for a step stool and two lock/cash boxes, Please let Janet know where they can be located. Will also be needing a chair person for the next quilt show – experience not required, there is always someone to help with any questions.

UFO Projects – Rene’ won the hat box full of fat quarters and Jill won the smaller bunch Good job at getting those projects completed!!

National Teacher – still taking deposits of $60.00 for registration

These classes also require the books to participate as well. Carrie will do presentation in October regarding the National Teacher classes.

Quilts for Comfort – Rene’, Janet, Patti, Theresa, Diane all won prize money for getting the quilts finished. Discussed different location for donating the quilts

Youth Dynamics (2), a quilt will be donated to the church, Riverside Youth Girls Graduation,
Little Children’s Home, CASA, Catholic Social Services,
Shodair Children’s Hospital, and keep some in reserve.

Please let us know if you can think of any other organizations that could use the quilts as well.

Retreat will be April 13-17, 2016 more information to follow as the date gets closer.

National Teacher News

Sign ups for our workshops with Bonnie Hunter ( are continuing through the October meeting for Guild members. Members voted for 3 different classes and guild members can select any or all of the classes at approximately $75 per day (actual cost will be determined once we have expenses pinned down).

The class schedule will be as follows:

If you plan to take any class or classes and have not paid your deposit of $65, please do so as soon as possible. Also, if you haven't done so already, be sure to let Kerri Myles know which class or classes you wish to take. Kerri can be emailed at or reached at 439-2165.

We will be talking about the workshops at the September meeting and you can sign up at that time. Deposits may also be mailed to the Helena Quilters Guild, P.O. Box 426, Helena MT 59624.

September leaves FOR SALE:

Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen Sit Down quilting machine with 36 x 30" table, foot pedal, bobbins, open toe and closed toe feet, needles, versa ruler tool, manual, and bobbin winder. It does not have an extension table or stitch regulator. Very lightly used since purchased in 2011. Serviced this summer. Excellent condition. Asking $4000.
